Question -
I am working to correct credentials and addresses on some recipients. If a physician who is practicing in Ohio, which is reflected on his SLN, but has an NPI number still tied to a Tennessee address. Which one does CMS want to see?
The confusion comes when an expense is in Ohio, but the NPI data is in Tennessee or another state. Sometimes we aren’t sure it is the same physician. In this case I want to use the SLN data because it is tied to the state he/she received the meal in.
Answer -
CMS has instructed the NPI and SLN being reported match the updated Validated Physician List.
Where an HCP is not on the validated physician list, CMS requires manufacturers to use the values provided within the NPPES database for NPIs and SLNs which can be located here:
https://npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov/
Medispend will be using the same logic for reports. CMS will be using first name, last name, NPI, and SLN for identifying purposes.
